Dr. Townes joined Remote Medical as our Chief Medical Advisor and instructor. You will meet Dr. Townes as an instructor on our advanced courses, as a guest lecturer on the Wilderness EMT, risk management consulting and on medical support operations. His extensive contributions to the fields of wilderness and emergency medicine make him an exceptional asset to our team. He is board certified in emergency medicine and is an Assistant Professor and the Associate Residency Program Director in the Division of Emergency Medicine at the University of Washington, School of Medicine, in Seattle. He has been a physician volunteer for the National Ski Patrol, Search and Rescue at Yosemite National Park, the Indian Health Service, and is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Wilderness Medical Society. He has served as the Medical Director for the Heartland AIDS Ride (2001); the Subaru Primal Quest Expedition Length Adventure Race (2002, 2003, 2004); and the Coastal Challenge (2005), and has worked in a variety of wilderness and international settings including Alaska, Guatemala, Russia, the West Indies, and Yosemite National Park. Dr. Townes is the Founder and Medical Director of AdventureMed. He is an avid hiker, snowboarder, and mountain biker.
