Raised on a farm in central Pennsylvania, Ernie first gained an appreciation for the outdoors running amuck on the homestead and nearby Appalachian Mountains. After being introduced to rock climbing at the age of 15, his attention for anything else was short-lived. It wasn’t until he attended an EMT-B course a few years later that he discovered something that inspired him just as much. Since then Ernie has gained an EMT-P certification, worked in urban, rural, and wilderness settings, and has gone on to acquire additional training in critical care medicine, wilderness medicine, and technical rescue.
Ernie resides in California and spends his time bouldering, stretching, reading, and contemplating his fragility.
