Company Story

Remote Medical International (RMI) was started by Andrew Cull, a Remote Area Paramedic while in college. The primary aim of RMI was to develop remote area medicine as a respected specialty, while enabling providers to have the equipment and training needed to operate in this unique environment. In the early days, the company operated out of a two-bedroom apartment providing training and equipment to providers of wilderness/remote medical care. In the course of that mission, the company has grown to over sixty employees across North America, conducting operations and training on five continents.

Remote Medical International exists to provide the best service possible to our clients to the benefit of our employees, what we call “The RMI Way”. This “way” is reflected in how we conduct business with the long-term outlook, recognizing the value of what long-term relationships bring to both our clients and employees. Since its inception, Remote Medical International has grown to be a market leader, providing the following services: Medical & Rescue Equipment, Training & Education, Medical & Rescue Support, and Tele-Medicine & Risk Management Consulting. Our success has proven that a small, highly-trained team combined with a horizontal organizational structure and a real open-communication policy is a much more effective way of conducting business, and one that contributes to the advancement of employee’s lives in a meaningful way.

"I remember at one point in our infancy when an engineering firm needed a dive kit, oxygen, and a backboarding setup the next day for a large contract. They called around noon, wanting the equipment the next day. We had everything in stock and in order to make their time, I jumped on a plane and hand-delivered the equipment, with time to do a small training course for the staff on how to backboard a patient with the Conterra XXX spinesavers. That is where our commitment to the service of our clients was exemplified" - Andrew Cull, Founder.

RMI's wholly-owned Canadian subsidiary, Halcyon Medical Services, began in the normal course of business at RMI. While working with existing clients, providing medical support to industrial clients in Alberta made more sense from a Canadian company employing Canadian medical staff, while utilizing the resources, training, and experience of Remote Medical International. Halcyon began to follow RMI’s deep belief that local business that supports local people and local economies is better for everyone, and both RMI and Halcyon will always continue to support that mission.
