Developed by a Firefighter/HazMat Technician, the HazMat Smart Strip is a user-friendly, wearable hazardous chemical indicator that can be worn by first responders, such as private citizens, police officers, firefighters, EMS and hospital workers, USAR teams, and the military. The HazMat Smart Strip is equipped with a peel and stick backing, and a clip so that it can be attached to the responder's clothing ensemble.
The eight reagents are selfcontained and activated by removing the protective covering that is designed to preserve the indicator layer until ready for use. Just peel off the protective cover, place it on your clothing, and it is ready to go. The color-developing indicator layer contains a chemical sensitive paper that changes from the color standard that is placed around each strip (border) in the presence of one of the eight categories of chemicals. The reaction time of the HazMat Smart Strip to the presence of these chemicals is instantaneous. The strip detects chlorine, fluoride, arsenic, hydrogen sulfide, cyanide, oxidizers, nerve agents, and PH. The HazMat Smart Strip uses technologies that have been tested by the Department of Defense and other government agencies.
The HazMat Smart Strip has a shelf life of two years, and is functional for twelve hours of use once it is activated by removing its protective covering. The advantages of the HazMat Smart Strip include its ease of use, lack of need for specialized or formal training, and low cost. It is a simple, self-contained sensor technology that is both reliable and easy to read in the field. The HazMat Smart Strip is grant money approved.
