Assessement-Based Approach to Patient Care
Remote Medical International is unique in the approach we use in teaching wilderness medicine. All of our courses feature an "Assessment-Based Approach" to patient care similar to the style that an Emergency Physician.
For example, Cardiac Emergencies are typically taught in sections by disease or disorder. The student would learn about Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack), then Angina (Chest Pain), and potentially some other disorders.
In a Remote Medical International course, the student would first learn how to approach a patient with any type of chest pain, and then learn about proper assessment as well as treatment of individual disorders within the larger picture.
Teaching by this approach requires that the instructor have a significant amount of experience dealing with real-life emergencies and it is evident by our experience that students leave our courses with a much more effective system in which to provide care.
