Wilderness EMTs have opportunities to work in unique environments such as ski patrol, doing standby rescue at remote locations and businesses, performing medic duties on expeditions, working as medics in National Parks, on wildland fire lines, or for urban ambulance services. Remote Medical International's WEMT course includes certifications in EMT-Basic from the National Registry, Wilderness EMT from Remote Medical, Medical Person in Charge from the US Coast Guard, and CPR for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association.

The Wilderness EMT (aka WEMT) program at Remote Medical International is taught by Remote Site Care Providers from our Medical Support Division with experienced Wilderness EMTs, Critical Care Nurses, Paramedics, and Emergency Physicians as guest lecturers. All Remote Medical instructors are current care providers in remote locations, so you can be sure you're learning from experienced professionals. The course format is a combination of lecture, realistic scenarios in real-time, and hospital emergency department internships.

Unlike many W-EMT courses which focus heavily on urban care, our course prepares the student for making critical decisions when injuries or illnesses occur in remote areas, and the hospital is not an option. Taught in wilderness environments, advanced subjects in the course include foley catheter insertion, IV therapy, suturing, dive emergencies, antibiotic administration, airway management, pain management/narcotic administration, performing eye assessments, specialized rescue considerations, dentistry and primary care. Additionally, students have the opportunity to practice interfacing directly with our telemedicine program
