Take your advanced training to the next level. Whether you are an MD, RN, PA, NP or Paramedic, the RMAP™ provides a solid introduction to the skills and mindset necessary to perform in the wilderness setting based on our collective experience from years of providing real ALS care in remote settings.

Whether working on Search and Rescue, volunteering in developing countries, as an expedition medic, supporting adventure races, or responding to disasters, the RMAP™ course focuses on hands-on skills and mindset essential to operating in places where the hospital is not an option. This course is different than other advanced wilderness medicine courses, and it comes with a guarantee called the RMAP™ Promise. This course is residential and taught exclusively in a wilderness setting.

Intended Audience Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician's Assistants, Registered Nurses, Paramedics and other ALS professionals. Experienced EMT-Intermediates may be admitted with approval of our Medical Director.

Skills & Topics Taught ALS skills review with remote focus: (intubation, foley catheters, IV therapy), trauma management, field dentistry, rescue and evacuation, survival, ENT emergencies, minor surgical procedures, health and hygiene, wilderness/remote medical protocols, pain management, anesthesia, psychology/psychiatry in remote and isolated areas, tropical medicine, effective technology and medical kit considerations, legal issues in wilderness care, animal attacks & plant envenomations, international considerations, performing risk assessments, altitude illness, expedition medical planning, aviation considerations, high-risk operations, tele-medicine & communications, and more...

Course Format The standard course is five days long running from 0800 to 1700 with a single night session from 1800 to 2200, or a total of forty-four hours. All Remote Medicine for the Advanced Provider™ courses are conducted in a real wilderness setting in order to ensure a realistic training environment.

Instructors All instructors for the RMAP™ are Remote Area Paramedics or Physicians who currently practice remote care in our Medical & Rescue Support Group. Instructor experience includes include military special operations, mountaineering expeditions, disaster medicine during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, remote site medical support in the Arctic, South America, Russia, and the Middle East.

Wilderness Medical Society Academy of Wilderness Medicine The RMAP™ course is approved for 40.25 hours of credit toward becoming a Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM).

Continuing Education Credits Category 1 CME is available for this this course. Total hours depends on specific course format and duration.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the Wilderness Medical Society and Remote Medical International. The Wilderness Medical Society is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Wilderness Medical Society designates this educational activity for a maximum number of 40 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Each physician should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
