Remote Medical International UK Limited (RMI) Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement 2023 to 2024

Version 1.1: March 1, 2023

Here are the steps RMI has taken and continues to take to understand and minimise the potential risk of modern slavery in its business and supply chains.

This statement is published in line with section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015.

About RMI

RMI saves lives and improves the health of workers in diverse job sites. No matter the industry, work environment, or geography, companies trust our medical and safety services to protect the health and wellbeing of their employees.

Our team of healthcare, safety, risk management, and logistics professionals proactively identify and address employee health and safety issues in industrial and remote sites. We quickly mobilise teams to respond to workplace health needs and emergent situations in the world's most challenging environments.

Our commitment to the principles of the Modern Slavery Act 2015

RMI Limited is committed to the principles of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and the abolition of modern slavery and human trafficking.

As an equal opportunities' employer, we’re committed to creating and ensuring a non-discriminatory and respectful working environment for our staff. We want all our staff to feel confident that they can expose wrongdoing without any risk to themselves.

Our recruitment and people management processes are designed to ensure that all prospective employees are legally entitled to work in the UK and to safeguard employees from any abuse or coercion.

We do not enter into business with any organisation, in the UK or abroad, which knowingly supports or is found to be involved in slavery, servitude and forced or compulsory labour.

Due Diligence and Risk Management in our Employment processes

  • Robust recruitment processes in line with UK employment laws, including: ‘right to work’ document checks; contracts of employment and checks to ensure everyone employed is 16 and above.
  • Market-related pay and reward, which is reviewed annually

Due Diligence and Risk Management in our Employment processes

Due to the nature of our business, we assess ourselves to have a low risk of modern slavery in our business and supply chains.

Our supply chains are limited, and we procure goods and services from a restricted range of UK and overseas suppliers.

All of the Consultants we use are trained professionals with specific skillsets and qualifications, meaning the issue of forced or child labour does not arise in our own operations.

Our policies in relation to the Modern Slavery Act 2015

The following policies are available to all staff at RMI:

  • Modern Slavery Policy
  • Code of conduct
  • Whistleblowing policy
  • Bullying and harassment policy
  • Diversity and inclusion policy
  • Recruitment and selection policy

Embedding the principles

We will continue to embed the principles through:

  • providing awareness to staff on the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and informing them of the appropriate action to take if they suspect a case of slavery or human trafficking
  • ensuring that consideration of the modern slavery risks and prevention are added to RMI’s policy review process as an employer and procurer of goods and services
  • making sure RMI's procurement strategies and contract terms and conditions include references to modern slavery and human trafficking
  • continuing to take action to embed a zero-tolerance policy towards modern slavery
  • ensuring that staff involved in buying or procurement and the recruitment and deployment of workers receive training on modern slavery and ethical employment practices

Effectiveness

We have benchmarked our Modern Slavery Act policies and procedures with those of comparable professional service firms and judge that our approach is proportionate and effective in addressing the most salient risks that apply to our business. However, we are committed to a process of continuous improvement in our approach to this important global issue.

2022 Summary

During 2022, there were no concerns relating to slavery either discovered through our processes nor reported by employees or third parties.

RMI  shall continue to take responsibility for this statement and its objectives, which will be reviewed and updated as appropriate and for each financial year.

As an organisation that has grown in recent years, we acknowledge that we are still in the early stages of a long-term strategy and our approach to the Prevention of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking will undoubtedly evolve year on year.  We will utilise our annual statements to publicly reaffirm our continued commitment and to communicate this evolution, including the steps we have taken and will continue to take, to deal with this morally and socially important issue.
