SEATTLE – CEGA, the leading UK provider of global medical support services, received a call from a multi-national engineering company whose employee had sustained a serious eye injury while working on a tugboat off the coast of Iraq. Within eight hours, the patient was on board a highly specialized intensive care air ambulance bound for a hospital in Dubai where he underwent two sight-saving surgeries. Thanks to CEGA’s medical evacuation expertise and logistical efficiency, the employee returned to work in good health a few weeks later.

With forty years of experience performing evacuations in remote and logistically complex locations, CEGA will collaborate with Remote Medical International (RMI) to provide medical and security evacuations and repatriation services for RMI CONNECT™ telemedicine members.

“Our clients operate in industrial, offshore, and international industries,” said RMI Medical Program Manager Judy Mason. “These environments often lack definitive care and require efficient, timely, and safe evacuations in the event of medical emergencies.”

With a fleet of air ambulances and a global network of vetted regional partners, CEGA will utilize its extensive database of medical, aviation, and surface transport contacts worldwide to ensure the highest quality of patient care from some of the world’s most difficult extraction points. Every flight is conducted by a highly experienced, ALS-certified flight crew trained in patient handling and critical care transfers.

“We are extremely pleased to be working with a market leader such as RMI, and our strategic alliance allows both organisations to offer our respective clients with a single source of expert remote medical services and 24 hour medical assistance and air evacuation provision,” said Juan Peña Núñez, CEGA’s Head of Corporate Specialty Risks. “We are really looking forward to working with RMI and delivering our mutual clients with a consistently high standard of service in a variety of locations, operating across multiple business sectors.”

For all repatriations and medical evacuations of RMI clients, CEGA will liaise with the treating doctor, monitor the patient’s condition, establish transportation clearance and booking, and secure a hospital bed. RMI consolidates all medical records and logistical details from evacuations and repatriations into the patient’s electronic file for future reference.
