SEATTLE – On Monday, June 17, Remote Medical International launched RMI CONNECT, a global telemedicine service that provides integrated medical support. RMI’s unveiling included the grand opening of its Global Coordination Center (GCC), a telemedicine response center located at the company’s headquarters in Seattle, Washington, USA.

Whether surveying ocean floors across the globe or mountaineering the world’s highest peaks, RMI CONNECT clients receive comprehensive medical advice and logistical support worldwide, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. One current client, ION Geophysical, a seismic solutions company, relies on RMI CONNECT to ensure employee safety while conducting Arctic exploration. With a RMI CONNECT membership, ION’s support vessel, the Polar Prince, receives emergency medical support and medical evacuation coordination for its principal scientific officers as they travel to some of the most remote regions of the world.

“ION employees are involved in operations around the globe, working in some of the harshest and most remote environments,” said Tim Granlie, ION HSE Manager. “The health and safety of our employees is absolutely our number one concern. We count on RMI to be there with us every step of the way, to help us prevent incidents from occurring, and if something were to occur, to help us minimize the problem and remedy the situation as quickly as possible.”

The GCC is staffed around the clock by Medical Coordination Specialists with extensive real-world remote medical experience. The RMI CONNECT team provides access to physicians for emergency consultation and advice, walks clients through step-by-step treatment, assesses and monitors its members’ medical condition, and coordinates evacuation when necessary.

“The Global Coordination Center allows us to provide an increased level of personalization and a more productive and positive overall experience for our telemedicine clients,” said Chris Kenney, Operations Director at Remote Medical International. “We are excited to offer a dynamic and responsive service that will increase the quality and efficiency of our clients’ operations worldwide.”

RMI CONNECT members receive unlimited access to the GCC via phone, internet, and video and are encouraged to also utilize the service for non-emergency consultations, trial calls, and answers to everyday medical questions and travel health advice.

Chris Kenney said that RMI CONNECT serves clients in industrial, offshore, and international industries, from individual business travelers to corporations in energy and government services, military and law enforcement, maritime companies, and executive protection.

“By accurately assessing and managing a situation, the RMI CONNECT team can help prevent costly and avoidable evacuations without compromising the patient’s health and safety,” said Kenney. “Our Medical Coordination Specialists are familiarized with our members’ exact location and the contents of their medical kit. From a medical standpoint, we know who you are, where you are, and how to best help you.”

The RMI CONNECT team tracks all medical interactions with electronic patient care records. These records are stored in a confidential database and utilized by RMI’s Medical Coordination Specialists to provide efficient, customized support. With RMI CONNECT, members also receive the added benefit of prescription authorization as approved by and used in accordance with RMI CONNECT physicians.

“Our telemedicine service has always been an integral component of remote medical care,” Kenney said.  “We’re now able to not just meet, but exceed client expectations.”
