Chain of Custody

By applying a strict chain of custody, we ensure that all test results are supported by secure and chronologically-documented evidence. This process guarantees that all samples are fully defensible in a legal setting, thereby providing peace of mind to both the donor and the organization arranging the test. Our chain of custody includes:

  • Official documents with barcodes that directly link specimens to paperwork
  • Donor consent and collector signature on all forms
  • Tamper-evident seals on specimen containers to show potential attempts of removal
  • Secure packaging to protect specimens in transit to laboratory
  • Laboratory checks on arrival to confirm the steps listed above
  • Specialized Training: Provision of Collection Resources

RMI medics undergo a chain of custody training in accordance with DOT regulations to ensure that environmental controls are in place during the collection and testing of samples. Our medics will verify the original donor for each test and take all reasonable precautions to maintain that no samples have been tampered with. This standardized process makes certain that the results reported relate, beyond all reasonable doubt, to a specific sample provided by a particular individual.

Medical Review Officer

RMI’s Medical Review Officer (MRO) is a licensed physician responsible for receiving and reviewing laboratory results. The MRO evaluates medical explanations for certain drug test results and serves as an independent and impartial advocate for the accuracy and integrity of the drug testing process. By establishing confidentiality and a timely flow of test results, the MRO guarantees that all testing meets your personnel’s policies and goals.
